The New Tube

There was a time when news channels used to telecast real news. TV channels had substance in their broadcasts. Now all we get to see on television is below par journalism feeding us with news which has little or no relevance or reality TV shows which is as real as a strippers silicon tits. Personally I think that the idiot box (and the name is more appropriate now than ever before!) is full of shit. Television bores me to death these days, so much so that if I would ever be able to watch TV for more than half an hour I would be running naked on the streets tearing at my hair.
Frustration and boredom ran rampant in my mind for the lack of some real couch entertainment. And solace I did find. Enter the world of internet tube. Websites which allow users, from all over the planet, to upload self made videos. Even professionally made videos are uploaded on to the net, people upload entire television series’ too (so there you go even your soap operas are taken care of). These videos can be accessed from anywhere in the world all you need is a decent internet connection.
Websites like youtube.com, metacafe.com and Google videos have clips and videos on almost everything possible. The videos range from educational, funny, music oriented, religious to utter crap from kids and adults alike. Sometimes your eyes are opened to stuff you did not even know existed. There are amazing and real videos on these websites which leaves your jaw brain-dead slack.
So now I have unadulterated, unfiltered information and entertainment at the click of a button whenever and wherever I want it. Now I have the freedom to choose what I want to see and what I reject as crap. It’s very simple you don’t like a video you are watching go check other videos on the same subject and there are thousands to choose from. There are great video tutorials to be found on these websites for almost anything you would want to learn. I came to know about Parkour a form of outdoor sport and discipline, on youtube.com and started practicing it on my own. There are no instructors for this sport in my area so I learnt all about training methods and all the moves from these videos. There are propaganda videos too but for every propaganda there is someone who has posted a counter response. It really lets you look at both sides of the coin at the same time. And it leaves you with the freedom to choose what is right and what is not. There are thousands of music videos, feel free to use it like a music channel but just better because you get to filter out the crappy music you don’t want to hear.
These sites open up a whole new world in front of us we just need to have open minds.

The Trip

This was the fourth time I was in mussoorie and for the shortest time, but I enjoyed this trip more than any other time. I enjoyed it even more than the first time I was there with my girlfriend. What made this trip the most memorable for me was the kind of company I was travelling with. It had nothing to do with going to every nook and corner of mussoorie or being awestruck with the beauty of the place not even the thrill of meeting Ruskin bond in person could match the sheer joy of what I experienced this time.
It was about going back to being what we men essentially are – being boys again. The stupid antics that we pulled off, like flicking something off a store just for the kicks of it or making plans of leaving the hotel without paying off the rent or being loud on the streets, playing the guitar and singing songs on the side of the streets. How often do we drive eighty kilometres in the middle of the night to get a pack of ciggarettes?Even more stupid things like wrestling each other and ending up breaking a bed. Simple joys of being a rash driver on the streets or going up and down the mountain roads at such speeds which would make Schumacher feel sick and puke.
The best part about trips like these is that you get to know a lot about your friends. Their habits nasty and good (well for us guys there are no nasty habits!! its all good.). Since people are in their own on such trips you even get to analyze how well you fair between the different sorts of people around you. And the feeling is really great if you realize you are at the top.
So yes, going places and travelling does mean that you revel in the sights and taste the cuisines, meet new people but there comes a time when you need to make one such trip which is all about yourself. A trip which makes you find yourself again.
